Make a Difference to Those in Recovery: Volunteer Your Time and Service

Our community is powered by the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, who play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission.

By volunteering with us, you can become a part of the recovery community and contribute to the life force that keeps it thriving. Whether you are in recovery yourself or simply want to support those who are, we welcome you to join our team and make a difference in the lives of others. So, if you are looking for a meaningful way to give back and make a positive impact, we encourage you to consider volunteering with us.

Volunteer Opportunities at our Center

Below are just some examples of opportunities for volunteering with Red House.

Red House Greeter

One peer leader needed for periods during the daily hours of operation. The greeter welcomes visitors, providing an introduction to the center and the available recovery programs and services. Our goal is to create a safe space, offering each person support and encouragement.  Interested volunteers will receive any necessary training and full support from the Red House staff. New Recovery Coaches welcomed!

Advisory Board

The advisory board is essential to the Red House peer participatory process. Eight peer leaders represent the general membership by making decisions that direct the daily operation of the center. Board members are required to make a one year commitment. During this time, board members are required to attend scheduled meetings, vote on policies and procedures and serve as a voice for the general membership. It is a great opportunity to contribute to the center and larger island recovery community.

Recovery Cafe

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Two to three volunteers  plan and prepare a meal for members. Volunteers will serve lunch and be responsible for clean up upon its completion.  The Red House staff will shop for ingredients and any necessary supplies. Ideally, a volunteer will be able to commit to one lunch per week for a specific period of time. No culinary  experience necessary. Just bring your energy and enthusiasm!

Administration

The Red House needs volunteers to help in a variety of administrative roles. Your interest in IT, spreadsheet, or data management will greatly aid in the success of the center. Speak with the Red House staff, and we can find a way for you to make a positive contribution to the island recovery community.

Event Planning

Multiple volunteers needed. Special events like holiday parties, volunteer appreciation nights, music and game nights are a unique way for the Red House to reach out to the island recovery community. If you have an idea for an event, or an interest in planning one, contact Red House staff and we will make the event happen.

Website

Multiple volunteers. The Red House web page is scheduled to go online in March!  And we need people with expertise in content development to help shape the Red House website. Even if you have little or no experience, we need member input and suggestions. We want the Red House website to reflect the diversity and uniqueness of the Island recovery community.

Teach a Class

Do you have an interest or talent you would like to share with others? Now is your chance!  The Red House is seeking volunteers who would like to teach a class to members and the wider recovery community. Photography, painting, singing, the possibilities are limitless. No experience necessary, just enthusiasm! Speak with Red House staff, and you will be on your way.

Newsletter

Help write, develop content and/or design our monthly newsletter.

CAPRSS Certification

Multiple peer leaders. The Council on Accreditation of Peer Recovery Support Services (CAPRSS) is the accrediting body for all Peer Recovery Centers. The Red House is currently in the process of meeting the CAPRSS certification criteria, and the Peer Participatory Process is essential in this process. Consequently we need members to meet weekly with staff, to add insight, input and ideas as we navigate the process. Contact Red House staff, and start helping the center gain CAPRSS certification.
